The brief for Sol House was to transform the interior layout of this Californian Bungalow, while retaining the original street frontage paying special attention to the minimisation of operational energy. The home now considerately pays homage to its history and is sustainably sound - incorporating both traditional and contemporary technological principles, including cross ventilation, thermal mass, sunlight access and control, and the use of sustainable and thermally efficient building materials. The renovation used a revolutionary pre-fabricated wall system from Habitech which not only significantly reduced on site construction time, it provided a highly insulated, low cost building form.
